Peacemaking in Bangladesh

The Chandpur Total Community Development Centres (TCDC) project works in 12 villages around the town of Chandpur in Bangladesh

The husband and wife project staff who live in the villages were initially unwelcome in some conservative Muslim communities. However, the turn-around to acceptance and belonging has been amazing. Project group members regularly say that before the TCDC project, there was little sense of ‘common-unity' (or community), but now the project members (Muslims, Hindus and Christians) sit and work together for a better future. In fact the crossing of ethnic, gender and religious boundaries has become one of the most interesting and exciting project outcomes. Poverty alleviation is the key project goal, but peacemaking between the different religious communities has become a significant outcome. Have a look at how it works...
