TCDC Goals

Basic literacy is a core development issue. Adult literacy levels in Bangladesh are low, which is a part of the poverty cycle. Literacy classes will become the core teaching method for the other project objectives. These classes will work to build:

  • Awareness of development issues - strengths, needs, opportunities.
  • Motivation to seek solution: Literacy is a human right not a privilege, so the motivation for literacy is critical; parents commitment to child literacy is also critical; The classes will build motivation to join other development activities.
  • Knowledge to assist change: Learning and knowledge are the foundation for future development.
  • Skills to assist change: Literacy class attendance habits will establish discipline and group ethic; Empowerment - personal uplift and community participation increased.
  • Resources to assist change: Lifeskills context learning - functional adult education will be backed with health teaching, group savings schemes, business advice and provision of services.
